program Description
The Department of Mathematics at Texas A&M University-Commerce will recruit 12 undergraduate students for the Theoretical and Application Driven Mathematics (TADM) REU program. TADM-REU program is supported by the National Science Foundation under the grant DMS-2243991. Summer 2024 Research projects Project 1. Coding Theory: “Graph-based quantum error-correcting codes” (Mentor: Padmapani Seneviratne) Project 2. Complex Analysis: “The excess area between images of domains under analytic mappings” (Mentor: Mehmet Celik) Project 3. Machine Learning: “Correlation between vector field features embedded into modified by operators and original images” (Mentor: Nikolay M. Sirakov) Project 4. Mathematical Biology: “Estimating the damage due to reperfusion caused by Ischaemia via a mathematical model” (Mentor: Aditi Ghosh) Students will work in a collaborative research environment under the supervision of faculty mentors. Each week specific time is incorporated into the schedule for professional development, including hosting external visitors from academic institutions and industry, preparing for graduate school, and discussing internships, and employment opportunities at the end of the program. Students will disseminate their research findings through poster and oral presentations and written reports and submit their manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals. Eligibility: Participants must be United States citizens or permanent residents who are currently enrolled in an undergraduate program. We strongly encourage members of traditionally underserved groups in STEM fields, including women, underrepresented minorities, persons with disabilities in research, first-generation college students, and veterans to apply. Program Dates and Format: Monday, June 10, 2024 – Friday, August 2, 2024, in-person at the Texas A&M University–Commerce campus, Commerce, Texas, 75428. Funding: Participants will receive a stipend of $4800, On-campus lodging, and travel support to and from Commerce, TX.
