This program, sponsored by the AIM and the NSF, seeks master’s and undergraduate students in mathematics or applied mathematics to take part in a three week online summer school and week long research program at Wake Forest University. No prerequisites beyond differential equations are assumed, but the student must be willing to commit approximately fifteen hours a week during the virtual school and travel to Winston Salem, North Carolina, to attend the research program. During the virtual school, a typical weekly schedule will consist of: • 3-4 hours watching pre-recorded lectures and interacting with material. • 6-7 hours working on problem sets. • 3-4 hours interacting with teaching assistants and faculty. The research themes of the program are broadly in tipping points in climate and weather systems. Research will be conducted in small groups of 3-4 students and will be closely mentored by faculty members. Additionally, after the program concludes, students may continue their research with faculty and participants. This program is only open to US citizens. |
