The Willamette University Mathematics Consortium is an intensive eight-week REU summer research program which immerses undergraduate students in a challenging, transformative, authentic research experience. Each summer, three research teams engage in three different but simultaneous research projects that share a common unifying theme. Each team, consisting of three undergraduates and one faculty mentor, live and work in close proximity. This proximity, combined with several organized social outings, give participants valuable opportunities to collaborate and establish new, lasting bonds within the greater research community. Program activities include the creation of new mathematics, career development workshops and training, and presentations at regional and national conferences.

Our goal is to foster a diverse research community and especially encourage students from under-represented groups and students from schools with limited research opportunities to apply.

This year's program will take place June 12-August 4, 2017. Applicants must be citizens or permanent residents of the United States or its territories and full-time undergraduate students in 2017-18. It is expected that applicants will have completed several sophomore (and some junior) level mathematics courses such as Linear Algebra, Graph Theory or Abstract Algebra and demonstrate commitment and enthusiasm for learning more mathematics. Each student will receive a $4000 stipend, travel support to and from the REU, and shared on-campus housing. Student participants will have access to $400 in travel funds to present their work at conferences.
