When: The next AWM workshop to be held in conjunction with the annual Joint Mathematics Meetings will be in Baltimore, MD, January 15 - 18, 2014.
Format: The AWM Workshop talks in Baltimore in 2014 will focus on image analysis, computational geometry, and computer vision. Participants will be selected in advance of the workshop to present their work. Recent PhDs will join senior women in a special session on image analysis, computational geometry and computer vision where they will give 20-minute talks. The graduate students will present posters. Poster presenters will be chosen from all fields of mathematics. Through a grant provided by the National Science Foundation, AWM will offer partial funding for travel and hotel accommodations for the selected participants. The workshop will also include a reception and a luncheon. Workshop participants will have the opportunity to meet with other women mathematicians at all stages of their careers.
Eligibility: To be eligible for selection and funding, a graduate student must have made substantial progress towards her thesis and a recent Ph.D. must have received her Ph.D. within approximately the last five years, whether or not she currently holds a postdoctoral or other academic position. Women with grants or other sources of support are welcome to apply. All non-US citizens must have a current US address.
All applications should include: * a title of the proposed poster or talk * an abstract in the form required for AMS Special Session submissions for the Joint Mathematics Meetings * a curriculum vitae * one letter of recommendation from a faculty member or research mathematician who knows the applicant's work - in particular, a graduate student should include a letter of recommendation from her thesis advisor.
If you are not selected to present in the AWM Workshop, do you want to give a shorter version of your talk at the Joint Mathematics Meetings? Yes or No response should be included on your Title and Abstract Upload as part of your application.
Title and Abstract to AMS: In addition to submitting your title and abstract to AWM, you must also submit it to the AMS. Their abstract submission page is at http://www.ams.org/cgi-bin/abstracts/abstract.pl. Click on “Submit an Abstract for the Joint Mathematics Meetingsâ€Â, then indicate the number of authors and click on "New Abstract". On the next screen, go to "Select an Event". Choose AWM PRES – AWM Workshop.
It is the applicant's responsibility to make sure that letter of recommendation is submitted by August 25, 2013.
