The George Lusztig Thesis Prize in Lie Theory is awarded annually to the author of an outstanding PhD thesis in Lie Theory.About this Prize
George Lusztig is a Romanian-born Hungarian-American mathematician and Abdun Nur Professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, known for his work in Representation Theory. Lusztig is a Fellow of the Royal Society and the American Mathematical Society and was elected to the National Academy of Sciences. He has won the Cole Prize in Algebra, the Leroy P. Steele Prize for Lifetime Achievement in Mathematics, the Shaw Prize in Mathematics, the Wolf Prize, and the Basic Science Lifetime Award.
The George Lusztig Thesis Prize in Lie Theory is awarded annually.
Nomination Procedure:
The prize will recognize a thesis for a Ph.D. granted between July 1 of year -1 and June 30 of year 0 (the year of nominations and selection) and will be presented at the Joint Mathematics Meetings in January of year +1.
The nominating institution will be a Ph.D.-granting institution that is either located in the United States of America (USA), or located outside the USA and an institutional AMS member at the time of the nomination.
One Ph.D. thesis may be nominated by a nominating institution.
The nominating institution will submit a copy of the thesis along with a letter in support of the nomination, and both will be written in English.
A selection committee will be appointed by the AMS President
