The Association of Women in Mathematics Fellows Program recognizes members who have demonstrated a sustained commitment to the support and advancement of women in the mathematical sciences, consistent with the AWM mission: “to create a community in which women and girls can thrive in their mathematical endeavors and to promote equitable opportunity and gender-inclusivity across the mathematical sciences.”

The following criteria are required for nominees to be considered for Fellowship:

Checklist for Nominators: Contributions need not be in research (but can be), and we encourage nominations regardless of the nominee’s gender. The nominator should adhere to the following set of guidelines.

  1. The nominator should confirm that the candidate is a current AWM member.
  2. The candidate should be at least 15 years into their career, including graduate school, except in exceptional cases.
  3. A curriculum vitae of the candidate not to exceed 3 pages. The CV should be focused on the candidate’s contributions to girls and women in the mathematical sciences. Wherever possible, please include links to supporting documentation.
  4. A suggested citation of at most 50 words. The citation should reflect the nominee’s sustained and lasting commitment to women and girls in mathematics, and not, for example, discuss the nominee’s research unless it is related to the selection criteria.
  5. A primary nomination letter and two supporting letters should be provided. All letters should be of at most 2 pages each, with one supporting letter being from a current member of AWM. The letters should specifically address how the nominee has contributed to the support and advancement of girls and women in the mathematical sciences, and not, for example, discuss the nominee’s research unless it is related to the selection criteria. Wherever possible, include links to supporting documentation. Possible ways in which the nominee may have contributed include (the nominee need not have contributed to all areas):
    • Contributing to the work of the AWM, including involvement in the local AWM chapter
    • Mentorship and outreach
    • Research
    • Education — broadly construed
    • Career development initiatives

The AWM encourages an extra supporting letter of one paragraph highlighting how the nominee has engaged with the local student AWM chapter and/or how the local AWM chapter has benefited from the work of the nominee.

The primary nominator need not be a current member of AWM but he/she should have been one at some point in the past.

Nominations will close May 15, 2026, so please participate in this year's selection process by nominating someone who you think deserves this recognition. Further information can be found at the AWM Fellows page at https://awm-math.org/awards/awm-fellows/.
