program Description

This workshop brings together undergraduate scholars and faculty mentors from multiple institutions for a week-long intensive collaborative research experience. Mentors will lead groups working on four projects; two in graph theory and two in data science. Please review the project descriptions prior to submission.

Join us for GIRAFFE at Winston-Salem State University, June 22-26, 2026!

Faculty apply to participate and list two undergraduate students who will join the workshop (along with the faculty member). Students interested in the program should identify a faculty member to serve as their home institution mentor and submit an application.

Prior experience in graph theory or data science is not required.

Modeled on the AIM/ICERM Research Experiences for Undergraduate Faculty (REUF) program, participants will work in teams on the project each day, with breaks for professional development and networking. The goal for the projects is to make significant progress on the problem during the in-person week, with the goal of completing the project over the next academic year.

All local expenses of participants will be paid, along with travel expenses up to budget constraints. Students will receive a stipend for the week.
