program Description

AMS Faculty Travel Grants to the JMM 2026

The AMS is pleased to offer a limited number of grants for full-time, US-based faculty who are members of the AMS to attend the Joint Mathematics Meetings (JMM) in Washington, D.C., from January 4-7, 2026. We seek applications from faculty at all career stages who can identify benefits to their research, teaching, or departmental leadership from participating in the JMM, and who would not be able to attend without this support. Priority consideration will be given to active AMS members who are participants or organizers in such activities as Professional Enhancement Programs (PEPs), the Workshop for Department Chairs and Leaders, Field of Dreams at JMM 2026, or are presenters at JMM.

With generous support from an anonymous donor, awards of up to $2,310 will be made to provide partial support for travel, lodging, subsistence, and registration.

If you would like to become an AMS member, more information can be found here.

  • If you already have an AMS account but don’t know your AMS member ID, you can find it by logging in here.
  • If you have trouble logging in to your account, please refrain from starting a new account and instead contact the AMS Programs Staff.

Eligibility

To be eligible for consideration for an AMS Faculty Travel Grant to the JMM, applicants must:

  • Be a member of the AMS. If you already have an AMS account but don’t know your AMS member ID, you can find it by logging in here;
  • Be employed full-time at a U.S. institution;
  • Be principally involved as a faculty member in such areas as mathematics, statistics, or mathematics education research;
  • Reside and study/work in the United States;
  • Have a home address that is outside a 50-mile radius of the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C.;
  • Have an institution mailing address that is outside a 50-mile radius of the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C.
In the application, applicants should provide evidence that their participation in the JMM will benefit their research, teaching, or departmental leadership. They should also show that support from this grant would be key to their traveling to the JMM site, such as if they do not have other substantial support that could be used instead. Applicants may also provide an explanation for special circumstances surrounding their application.

MathPrograms Coversheet

As part of your application package, please ensure your MathPrograms Coversheet is complete and accurate. Coversheet items such as Current Address/Institution and PhD Date have an impact on determining your eligibility for a travel grant. You can access your Coversheet under the Portfolio tab at the top of the screen.

Travel Support

Travel grant applicants will be responsible for making their own travel and meeting arrangements in accordance with grant policies and procedures. Grantees who do not follow these policies and procedures may not be eligible for reimbursement of travel expenses they incur.
