Faculty mentor: Paul Carter (University of California, Irvine) We seek 2 motivated undergraduate students to spend 8 weeks in residence between June 23 - August 15, 2025, for a summer program at the Department of Mathematics at the University of California, Irvine. Research topics will be related to nonlinear waves and pattern formation, using the theory of dynamical systems and partial differential equations, with applications in mathematical biology, ecology and/or physics. To participate, students must be US citizens or permanent residents, and must have not yet completed their undergraduate degree by summer 2025. Selected students will receive a stipend of $5000, a travel reimbursement allowance, and housing support. The deadline for applications is February 3, 2025. Applicants should submit: - a personal statement describing your motivation and interest in this program - CV - transcript (unofficial OK) - at least one reference letter (two maximum) We encourage applications from students from historically underrepresented groups in mathematics.
