program Description

The Program for Research for Undergraduates (PRUV) is a summer fellowship for undergraduate research in the mathematical sciences, sponsored by the Duke Mathematics Department. The program consists of six weeks of one-on-one research by the PRUV Fellow, advised by a faculty member, during summer 2025. This is typically followed by a research independent study course with the same faculty member in the next academic year, culminating in a senior thesis that can be submitted for Graduation with Distinction honors.

PRUV is open only to current Duke students who will not have graduated before the program in summer 2025. We especially encourage juniors to apply. Students who are younger and/or more interested in collaborative research (involving multiple students on a single project) may want to apply to the related program Math+ (application on mathprograms to come), also sponsored by the Duke Mathematics Department.

We are now accepting applications for PRUV 2025. There is no formal deadline but we encourage students to apply as soon as you decide that you are interested.

Application Materials Required:
Submit the following items online at this website to complete your application:
  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Transcript (a copy of your online transcript from DukeHub is sufficient)
And anything else requested in the program description.
