Duke Math is seeking undergraduate Math Teaching Assistants for Summer Workshop in Math (SWiM2023). All females and allies majoring in mathematical areas are encouraged to apply, and we particularly encourage those who have experience in either topology or number theory (our two SWiM courses). Applicants must be US citizens/permanent residents and reside in one of the following states: AZ CA CO FL GA HI IL MA MD MT NJ NY PA SC TN TX VA DC.

SWiM2023 is an 8-day workshop for rising senior high school students who are interested in mathematics, with a particular focus on advancing female participation in math. SWiM2023 will take place at Duke University from June 10-17 of 2023. You can find more information about SWiM2023 program by visiting our web page.

Summer Workshop in Math (SWiM)

We will provide all TAs free housing and meals during their stay at Duke as well as an award of $2,500. We will also cover travel expenses up to $750 within the continental US.

All Teaching Assistants must arrive on June 9 of 2023 (the day before). Together with SWiM participants, TAs are required to attend all scheduled activities including courses, lectures and field trips. The TAs’ main role is to assist two course instructors throughout, facilitate group discussions and supervise participants. The TAs will guide SWiM participants in completing their group projects and assist with presentations. TAs will be lodged in the dorm with participants and will be their main point of contact. The TAs’ contribution is vital for the program to be successful.

To complete the application, please submit a cover letter, CV, transcript and ask one least one letter writer to submit a letter of recommendation. The application deadline is April 11, 2023 with selection expected to be finalized by April 20.
