program Description

The Cryptography Boot Camp NSF-REU is a fast-paced preparatory program focused on the fundamentals of modern mathematical cryptography.

The program is six weeks long, and will run from June 5 - July 15, 2023. It will be held at the University of Kansas (KU) in beautiful Lawrence, Kansas.

Participants will learn to implement algorithms through computer programming, collaboratively complete a research project, and attend professional development sessions on graduate school and industry careers such as data science.

Campus lodging, subsidized travel to and from KU, and a $4000 stipend will be provided to each participant.

Participants are required to have successfully completed an undergraduate linear algebra course. In addition, participants must be US citizens or US permanent residents, due to a requirement of the National Science Foundation.

The application should include at least one reference letter from a faculty member, an unofficial transcript, and a 1-page personal statement summarizing your mathematical experience, and your interest in your program, including its potential impact on your future goals.

Our program aims to foster a diverse community, and we strongly encourage applications from students from underrepresented groups in STEM.

For questions, please contact the program director, Emily Witt, by emailing witt@ku.edu.
