Program Description:

*** this program has been closed and new applications are no longer accepted. ***

In this program, undergraduate students spend eight weeks doing research work in discrete math: combinatorics, discrete probability, or theoretical computer science. Each participant is closely mentored by an active researcher. We are based in CUNY's Baruch College, located at the heart of Manhattan.

We are looking for ambitious undergraduates who are strongly motivated to work on research problems and possibly publish a paper. That is, students who wish to work hard during the summer to achieve this goal. The participants will also receive training in topics such as giving talks, writing proofs, and applying to grad school. We keep supporting the participants for many years, as they continue with their studies and careers.

While we are serious about our research, another goal of the program is to create a supportive and accepting community of people who are enthusiastic about mathematics. People who would continue to support and encourage each other in future years. This community also includes participants from previous summers. We dedicate time to discuss topics such as having a healthy and fulfilling mathematical careers, how to support the community around you, and so on.

Women and students from underrepresented minorities are highly encouraged to apply.

See our webpage for details such as stipends, dates, the mentors, research topics, who is eligible to apply, and the papers produced in previous years.

Participants must be vaccinated and follow the CUNY Covid regulations.
