Location: University of Minnesota (UMN), Twin Cities Campus
About the REU: This is a call for applications from undergraduate students from US universities, including the University of Minnesota. The advisor is Professor M.Carme Calderer. The projects involve partial differential equations, dynamical systems and numerical analysis in problems emerging from mechanics, liquid crystals and certain topics of arch.
Students from outside the Twin Cities area will receive room and board in a UMN residence hall.
Students from all life experiences and academic paths, including veterans, first-generation college students, students who have faced financial barriers, and students whose home institutions have limited research opportunities in mathematics.
Application Materials:
- Standard cover sheet, ignoring "current title/dates" and "highest degree/institution/dates";
- A list of undergraduate math courses taken or in progress, with course grades indicated; this does not need to be an official transcript;
- Two letters of recommendation. We encourage recommenders to comment on the student's mathematical maturity, record for enthusiasm in solving problems, and ability to work collaboratively with others.
- A brief statement of interest in the program.
All participants will receive a stipend of $2,800. Room and board in a UMN residence hall will be provided for non-local participants.
