Program Description:
program Description
The Polymath Jr program is an online summer program where undergraduates do math research. See https://geometrynyc.wixsite.com/polymathreu for details. The program aims to give everyone the opportunity to experience mathematical research. It supports students from across the country and the world who do not have other opportunities. Some students use the program to demonstrate their potential and get into graduate school, jobs, and more. Others just wish to just get a first glimpse of math research, to decide whether they wish to pursue it more seriously in the future. Each research group is run by at least one professor, supported by additional postdocs and graduate students. On average, a group consists of 20 undergraduates. You may apply here for two types of graduate mentor positions: - A paid position: Receive an $2500 NSF stipend and participate in an official training of mentoring undergraduate research. The job consists of about one day per week for an eight week period in June - August 2025. This is only available for US citizens or permanent residents. - An unpaid position: Join a research group without a specific time commitment and focus only on the kind of work you are excited about. One person may like to help less experienced students catch up on the material, another might prefer to help the main research efforts, while yet another might like to help the social aspect. There is no citizenship requirement or time commitment. We encourage applications from all graduate students. This application is meant to be somewhat informal. You may submit any information you wish. You could submit a c.v., a cover letter, or any other type of information you want. We don’t expect any particular documents, and you can tell us as much or as little as you like – only what you feel comfortable writing. Please do though arrange for one professor to upload a letter of recommendation, ideally commenting on your ability to mentor.Application Materials Required:
- Submit the following items online at this website to complete your application:
- Additional Documents (optional)
- Reference letter (to be submitted online by the reference writers on this site
)
- And anything else requested in the program description.
