Note: This application is only for women who plan to enter their first or second year in a PhD program in the US in Fall 2023.

The 2023 EDGE Summer Program will be held June 4 – July 1, 2023 at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island (pending funding). The EDGE Foundation will cover all travel, room, and board expenses related to the Summer Program. Program participants will also receive a modest stipend.

The EDGE Summer Program is a four-week, residential session designed to prepare a cohort of women to thrive in their PhD programs in the mathematical sciences. Program participants attend daily lectures in subjects such as Algebra, Analysis, Measure Theory, and Machine Learning. EDGE coursework is designed to prepare participants for graduate research and qualification exams, while also providing practical experience in a rigorous academic setting. Participants delve deeper into these subjects through collaborative daily problem sessions with guidance from EDGE mentors, who are current graduate students and often EDGE alumnae.

The EDGE Summer Program is rigorous and immersive. Participants are expected to work on their coursework 7 days a week, often outside of regular working hours. The amount and level of work is demanding. EDGE encourages participants to communicate with co-directors so they can achieve the maximum benefit from the program.

The EDGE Summer Program will require all participants to be fully vaccinated by the time of acceptance. Participants must also agree to take a COVID-19 PCR test once in Providence.

Eligibility Applicants to the program should be women who: 1) are applying to PhD programs in the mathematical sciences with the intention of beginning in Fall 2023 or 2) just completed their first year in a PhD program in the mathematical sciences. Women from underrepresented minority groups are especially encouraged to apply.

Final acceptance to the program is contingent upon enrollment in a PhD program in Fall 2023.
