program Description
Mathematical Congress of the Americas (MCA) 2025 Travel Grant Program - Early Career Mathematicians
With generous funding from the National Science Foundation (NSF), the American Mathematical Society (AMS) is pleased to offer the Mathematical Congress of the Americas (MCA) 2025 Travel Grant Program. This program will offer travel grants to provide partial support for U.S.-based mathematicians to attend the Mathematical Congress of the Americas, to be held July 21–25, 2025, at the University of Miami in Miami, FL.
Selection for MCA 2025 Travel Grants will be based on applicants’ eligibility for the program, their research record, the potential impact of the MCA on their professional development, and need. Priority in funding will be given to early-career mathematical scientists.
Who is eligible for this grant?
Applicants must live and work/study in the United States and have home and institution mailing addresses outside a 50-mile radius of the University of Miami.
Applications will be accepted from mathematical scientists in the following career stages.
Graduate students
- Students enrolled in a PhD (or its equivalent) program in the mathematical sciences at a US institution.
- Students who anticipate graduating in May or August 2025 should apply as graduate students, not as early career mathematicians.
Early career
- Mathematical sciences faculty members who completed the PhD (or its equivalent) within the last six years (between January 1, 2019, and December 31, 2024, inclusive).
Mid/late career
- Mathematical sciences faculty members in the United States who completed their PhD before January 1, 2019.
Note: For any program, fellowship, prize, or award that has a maximum period of eligibility after receipt of the doctoral degree, the selection panel may use discretion in making exceptions to the limit on eligibility for candidates whose careers have been interrupted for reasons such as family or health. Therefore, an applicant who has had to slow down or temporarily stop their career for personal reasons may request that they be considered for an extension in the amount of time after the PhD degree.
What will this grant provide?
This grant will provide partial travel support to attend MCA 2025. The travel grants will be up to $1,120 for graduate student grantees and $1,240 for early and mid/late career faculty grantees. Eligible expenses will include economy roundtrip airfare, hotel, meals, and registration.
Grantees are responsible for making their own travel arrangements to the meeting, registering, and paying appropriate fees.
What is the timeline for this grant?
- Applications will be accepted until Monday, April 14, 2025 (11:59 p.m. EDT). An optional reference letter is due by Monday, April 14, 2025 (11:59 p.m. EDT).
- Applicants will be notified of their application status by June 12, 2025.
