Beijing-Shanghai Summer School in Mathematics will take place June 22-July 3, 2026 at the Shanghai Institute for Mathematics and Interdisciplinary Sciences (SIMIS). BSSSM will gather graduate students and postdocs (~100 in total) to study a couple of related topics in mathematics for two intense weeks. The theme at BSSSM in 2026 is Skein Theory.Topics and Schedule.
- Week 1: “Higher-dimensional Heegaard Floer homology” by Ko Honda, “KLR algebras and link homology” by Mikhail Khovanov.
- Week 2: “Skein valued curve counts” by Tobias Ekholm, “Fukaya categories and higher representation theory” by Vivek Shende.
Hotel accommodations will be arranged and funded. We have limited funding for travel reimbursement, check the related box in the application form if you would like to be considered. Applications submitted by April 12, 2026 will have priority for travel funding.
The required application materials include a letter of intent (no more than 1 page). This must include: (1) key CV data, (2) how you are prepared for this program, (3) how the program will help your ongoing and future research.
The applications materials also include a transcript: if your graduate school transcript currently includes fewer than two semesters of graded work, submit both your graduate school transcript and your undergraduate transcript (as one PDF, unofficial copies acceptable). If you are a postdoc, you can choose to upload a list of publications instead of transcript in this section.
Please arrange for a faculty member to upload a brief letter of recommendation to the “Reference Letter” section.
