program Description
We plan to take up to two students for an 8-week Research Experience for Undergraduates at the University of Illinois Chicago. The project will be in the area of mathematical logic working with faculty mentor Matthew Harrison-Trainor. Students will work on a research problem of mutual interest in computability theory or related areas such as model theory or descriptive set theory for eight weeks. The project would start in mid-May to early June depending on the participant's availability. Students are expected to be in Chicago for the eight week period of their program and working on mathematical research full-time. The University of Illinois Chicago campus is centrally located in Chicago, just west of the Chicago Loop and on a stop of the Blue Line train. REU participants will receive a general stipend of $5,600 and an additional stipend of $2,500 for travel, housing, and subsistence. Participants are responsible for making their own travel and housing arrangements. These opportunities are funded by NSF grants and are limited to U.S. citizens or permanent residents. Please submit a cover letter explaining your research experience and interests, a transcript, and two reference letters. You may optionally submit a curriculum vitae.
