Program Description:   URMs

Summer Undergraduate Math Research at Yale (SUMRY) is a nine-week summer program hosted by the Mathematics Department at Yale University with the primary goal of engaging a diverse group of undergraduate students in original mathematics research. We hope to build the diversity of the mathematics community by providing opportunities for women and underrepresented students at this early stage in their training. SUMRY is supported in part by a National Science Foundation REU Site grant.

We plan to welcome 24 students into 4 or 5 research groups, each lead by a faculty mentor. At least half of the students will be non-Yale students. To apply please complete the application on mathprograms (only the standard coversheet and one letter of recommendation are required) AND complete the google form available on our website https://sumry.yale.edu/

Since its founding in 2014 SUMRY has provided undergraduate research opportunities for more than 150 students, resulting in over 40 publications. Our website contains lists of past projects and publications. The application deadline is 2/2, we will send acceptances by mid to late February, and we will honor the national REU response deadline of 3/8. We especially encourage applications from women and students traditionally underrepresented in mathematics.
