The IMSM workshop starts with a welcome reception at 5pm on Sunday, 15 July 2018 and ends at 8pm on 25 July 2018.
The objective is to expose graduate students in mathematics, statistics, and computational science to challenging and exciting real-world projects arising in industrial and government laboratory research. Students will gain experience in the team approach to problem solving. Students will collaborate in teams of 5-7 on projects presented by experienced scientists and engineers from industry and government. The projects are not classroom exercises, but require fresh insight for their formulation, computation and solution. Each student team is mentored by a problem presenter and a faculty adviser. The workshop is held on the campus of North Carolina State University in Raleigh, NC. Students must be registered graduate students at a US university at the time of the IMSM workshop, and are requested to submit a CV, a transcript, and a statement of interest. A letter of recommendation must be submitted by the advisor. Notifications of acceptance will be sent out in early May.
