Application Deadline: Wednesday, February 16, 2022. Our 21st annual REU program in algebra, combinatorics and representation theory will be held in the summer of 2022, at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis. We expect approximately 7-15 participants with the program running 8 weeks from June 13, 2022 to August 5, 2022. Some or all of the REU may occur online if it cannot happen safely and responsibly in-person. Our participants are given the choice of research projects introduced through mini-courses in the first weeks of the program, and students can get a sense of potential topics from the UMN REU website (link below). The session includes organized social activities (local theatre, professional sports events, running club, etc.) as well as mentorship and professional development from graduate student teaching assistants. We want the REU to be a welcoming, respectful and supportive environment for all participants, and we recognize that solving mathematical problems often involves collaboration and viewpoints from multiple perspectives. Selection Criteria: Participants will be selected based on motivation, scholarly aptitude and potential, ability to work in teams, and the likely benefits to the participant and the program. To participate, students must have not yet completed their undergraduate degree by Summer 2022. We welcome applications from US citizens, green card holders, and those holding student visas allowing for participation; please indicate this status on the application. Application Materials:
Students who are US citizens or green card holders will receive a stipend of $6500, from which room and board expenses for dormitory and meal plan (approx. $3600) are deducted.
Non-citizens with visa restrictions may only be able to receive reimbursement for expenses, including room and board. |
