Think you might be interested in graduate school?

Apply for a one-week Graduate School Preview in Mathematical Biology. This program will give students an exciting preview of research and graduate school in mathematics applied to the life sciences. The program is hosted (virtually) by the University of Utah Mathematics Department, funded by the National Science Foundation, and runs May 17-21, 2021.

During the week, participants will work on a research project mentored by a Utah faculty member and a PhD student. Possible research topics include optimal medication dosing, COVID-19 spread, extreme statistics in cell biology, allometry, metabolism and body weight regulation, cancer initiation, neural communication, and population dynamics in a changing environment. The program is designed for undergraduates interested in applied mathematics and planning to graduate in 2022 or 2023. No specific mathematical or biological background is required.

In addition to working on a research project, participants will attend research talks and tutorials by Utah faculty and PhD students, learn about careers in mathematics, and hear from graduate student panels about applying to graduate school and life as a graduate student.

This is an online program. Participants need a reliable internet connection and must be able to participate during usual working hours (9am-5pm Mountain Time). Participants will receive a $500 stipend.

Only US citizens or permanent residents are eligible. Applications completed before March 1st will receive full consideration.
