Graduate Research Opportunities for Women (GROW) 2022 is a conference for women and non-binary undergraduate students at U.S. colleges and universities who may be interested in pursuing a graduate degree in the mathematical sciences.


When and where is GROW 2022?

The conference takes place Friday October 21 - Sunday October 23 at Duke University in Durham, NC.

Participants will arrive Friday afternoon and depart Sunday afternoon. Formal activities will begin Friday evening and end Sunday at midday.


What is the cost of participation?

The conference is FREE for all accepted participants. We will reimburse travel expenses and provide accommodation and meals.


What will the conference include?

  • Plenary speaker Hee Oh, Yale University

  • Featured lectures:

  • Panel discussions on graduate studies and research in mathematics:

    • How to apply to graduate school: nuts and bolts with grad directors

    • From Day 1 to PhD: student and mentor perspectives

    • Exploring a research landscape: what it’s like to live a research life

    • Life with a PhD: the very many ways we can use our quantitative skills

  • Celebratory dinner

  • Small group conversation and networking

  • Opportunities for mentoring by graduate students and faculty


Who can apply?

  • Are you a woman (cis-gendered, transgendered, or woman-identified) or nonbinary individual?

  • Are you currently an undergraduate at a U.S. college or university?

  • Are you thinking about graduate school in the mathematical sciences?

  • Do you want to know more about graduate school?

  • Do you want advice on preparing yourself for graduate school?

  • Do you want to know more about mathematical careers in academia?


To apply, complete the MathPrograms.org application and submit the following:

  • One (1) letter of recommendation

  • A copy of an unofficial undergraduate transcript


We welcome applications now, and all applications received by August 1 will receive full consideration. We will continue to accept applications until September 1. Accepted applicants will be notified by September 15.
