Duke Math is seeking paid math Teaching Assistants (TAs) for our Summer Workshop in Mathematics (SWiM2021). All undergraduates who are US citizens/Permanent residents and are permanent residents of North Carolina (for payroll purposes) that are majoring in the Mathematical Sciences are eligible to apply. SWiM is particularly interested in increasing diversity in mathematics and in science and technology opportunities more broadly, so SWiM strongly encourages applicants who are female or female-identifying.
SWiM is a 7-day workshop for rising senior high school students who are
interested in mathematics, with a particular focus on advancing female
participation in math. For more information about the program, visit
This year’s program, SWiM2021, will take place virtually (via Zoom) from June 15-23 of 2021. Together with SWiM2021 participants, teaching assistants are required to attend all scheduled activities including the courses, lectures and (virtual) field trips. The main role of the TAs is to assist two course instructors throughout and to support afternoon group discussions. TAs also need to guide SWiM2021 participants in completing their group projects and help with their presentations scheduled on June 23, 2021. TAs' assistance will be most important for the program to be successful. The TAs will be paid $1000 for their time and effort.
To complete the application, please submit your cover letter, your CV, transcript and contact details for a letter of recommendation. The application deadline is March 22, 2021 with selection expected to be finalized by April 1, 2021. Applicants will be notified about the decision by email no later than April 10, 2021.
