Program Description:    

The Department of Mathematics at Temple University invites applications to our PhD program in Mathematics. This site serves as a pre-application server that delivers your materials to the admissions committee in the most efficient manner. This pre-application is free.

In order to be admitted, applicants will eventually need to submit materials through the University's official portal. That application carries a fee of $60. Based on your information, the Department can waive the official application fee in cases of financial need or for outstanding early applicants..

Admission Requirements: To be admitted to the program, applicants must hold a baccalaureate degree (or equivalent) from an accredited college or university and must have completed fundamental undergraduate mathematics courses equivalent to a Mathematics major.

Application Deadline: For full consideration, applications should be received by January 8. Applications received after this date will be considered on a case-by-case rolling basis. International students are recommended to apply by January 1.

A complete application includes the following components:

Letters of Reference: Please request three (3) letters from individuals who are well acquainted with your abilities and achievements in mathematics and related areas, particularly current or former instructors. In certain cases, letters from employment supervisors or project leaders may be appropriate as well.

Statement of Goals: Describe your strengths and motivation, your purpose for applying to a Ph.D. program in mathematics, and your interest in pursuing that degree at Temple.

Resume: Please attach your current resume or curriculum vitae.

Standardized Test Scores: The GRE General Test is required. The GRE Subject Test in Mathematics is strongly recommended. For students whose undergraduate education was not in English, either the TOEFL or IELTS is required. The minimum TOEFL score is 79 iBT or 550 PBT. The minimum IELTS score is 6.5.

Transcripts: Please attach a transcript from every institution where you have attended undergraduate or graduate courses. At the early stages of the admission process, the transcript can be unofficial.
