*** this program has been closed, and no new applications will be accepted. ***

Project NExT (New Experiences in Teaching) is a professional development program for new or recent Ph.D.s in the mathematical sciences. It addresses all aspects of an academic career: improving the teaching and learning of mathematics, engaging in research and scholarship, finding exciting and interesting service opportunities, and participating in professional activities. It also provides the participants with a network of peers and mentors as they assume these responsibilities. Since 1994, over 1600 Fellows have appeared in all capacities in the academic mathematical profession, including many leadership positions at their home institutions and in the MAA. If accepted into the program, you will be expected to attend three conferences:
  • MathFest in Denver (July 30-Aug 4, 2018)
  • Joint Math Meetings in Baltimore (January 15-19, 2019)
  • MathFest in Cincinnati (July 30-August 3, 2019)
With few exceptions, successful applicants will have support from their home institution to attend these conferences; a letter from a chair or dean promising up to $4k in travel support is recommended. A limited number of travel grants may be available to those from institutions who cannot afford to support their faculty.

[Note that the mathjobs default language for "reference letters" doesn't exactly fit MAA Project NExT. Your reference letter (you only need one) should come from the chair or dean at the institution where you will be teaching in the Fall. It's really more of a Letter of Support than a Reference Letter - but we couldn't change the default language.]
