Program Description:

Pending approval of a funding proposal to the National Science Foundation, the AMS is administering a program funded by the NSF to provide partial travel support for U.S. based mathematicians attending the 2018 International Congress of Mathematicians (ICM 2018) August 1-9, 2018, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

This program is open to mathematicians who have a full-time affiliation with a U.S. institution at the time of the Congress. Early career mathematicians within six years of their doctorate (that is, from November, 2011 to present) are invited to apply using this application; all others should see the Travel Grant Program for 2018 ICM application. Please note that for any program, fellowship, prize or award that has a maximum period of eligibility after receipt of the doctoral degree, the selection committee may use discretion in making exceptions to the limit on eligibility for candidates whose careers have been interrupted for reasons such as family or health. You should state your exception on your application.

Early career mathematicians (those within 6 years of their doctorate) are required to submit one letter of recommendation from a senior professional mathematician. Please enter the name and email of your reference writer on your AMS coversheet in the references section. Once you have submitted the form, he/she will receive login information in order to upload the reference letter.

Applications will be evaluated by a panel of mathematical scientists. AMS employees are not eligible.

The following conditions will apply: mathematicians accepting these grants for partial support of travel to the ICM2018 may not supplement them with any other NSF funds.
