|The Fellows of the American Mathematical Society program recognizes members who have made outstanding contributions to the creation, exposition, advancement, communication, and utilization of mathematics. The 2015 class of Fellows will be chosen by the AMS' Selection Committee, comprised of 12 members of the AMS who are also Fellows. The Council will determine the number of new Fellows each year. Those members chosen by the Selection Committee are then invited to become Fellows of the AMS.|
The nomination period for the next class of Fellows begins on February 1, 2014 and ends March 31, 2014 (11:59 p.m. Eastern Time).
OVERVIEW OF THE NOMINATION PROCESS
The nomination process occurs online, at this MathPrograms.org website. Contact information will be requested for the following individuals:
Nominee: To be eligible for nomination as a Fellow, the individual being nominated must:
Nominator: To be eligible as a Nominator, a current year (2014) AMS membership is required. A member can serve in the role of Nominator for no more than two (2) nominees per year.
Supporting Member: Each nomination must additionally be supported by three current (2014) AMS members.
Please note that a minimum of two (2) of the four (4) individuals making this nomination (i.e. the Nominator and 3 Supporting Members) must be Fellows of the AMS. It is not possible to nominate oneself.
All 2014 membership qualifications must be met by close of business March 31, 2014 (4:15 p.m. Eastern Time).
Nominations for entry into the 2015 class of Fellows of the AMS will be accepted from February 1, 2014 through March 31, 2014.
Please establish a login at the nomination site [note: this is not your normal AMS login. It is a MathPrograms.org login]. You may need to return to the form at a later date, so save your login information. After March 31, the application period will be closed and no further changes can be made.
Members may want to fill out the top portion, wait for confirmation of the membership status, and then proceed with the complete application. Such confirmation will come via email to the Nominator within two to three business days. Please contact the AMS (see below) if you have not received confirmation within this time period. It is the Nominator's responsibility to make sure the application is completed by the deadline; no extensions may be granted. Please note that AMS member codes are not required but will expedite the process of checking memberships. Current (2014) memberships will be checked for the Nominator and each Supporting Member; Nominators will be notified about any qualification problems.
CONFIRMATION BY SUPPORTING MEMBERS
The three Supporting Members named on the application will receive an email verification form (generated automatically when the Nominator submits the nomination form). Please mark the "email" box next to each Supporting Member name when you are ready to have that email sent, and SUBMIT the whole screen. Supporting Members will then click through that email and confirm their support by explaining in a sentence or two why they are supporting this nomination. After the Supporting Member completes that step, the Nominator will be able to log in to the nomination screen and see a purple date of submission below the name of that Supporting Member. If necessary, Supporting Members can be emailed again through a button that the Nominator can use on that screen.
By submitting the nomination, you are nominating the individual ("Nominee") to become a Fellow of the AMS in the current round. This is a competitive process which may or may not result in the Nominee becoming a Fellow.
The 2015 class of Fellows will be chosen by the AMS' Selection Committee, comprised of 12 members of the AMS who are also Fellows.
Invitations to become a Fellow of the AMS will be issued to those selected on September 1, 2014. Any person who is nominated and is not selected a Fellow will remain an active nominee to be considered by the Selection Committee for possible selection for a further two years. In either case, the nominator will be notified after September 1.
