This REU, organized by the University of California, Irvine, is being held off-site at Leiden University in The Netherlands. We seek 2-3 motivated undergraduate students to spend 7 weeks in residence between June 20, 2023 and August 4, 2023, for a summer program at the Mathematical Institute at Leiden University. Research topics will be related to nonlinear waves and pattern formation, using the theory of dynamical systems and partial differential equations. Applications include ecosystem models and other topics in mathematical biology/ecology.

To participate, students must be US citizens or permanent residents, and must have not yet completed their undergraduate degree by summer 2023. Selected students will receive a stipend of $4200, and up to $2000 reimbursement of travel expenses. An accommodation option will be provided through Leiden University. We intend to conduct the program at Leiden University; however, if international travel is deemed unsafe or inadvisable for summer 2023, the program will be conducted virtually.

The deadline for applications is February 10, 2023. Applicants should submit:

- a personal statement describing your interest in the program

- CV

- transcript (unofficial OK)

- at least one reference letter (two maximum)
