Program Description:

The Program in Mathematics for Young Scientists (PROMYS) invites undergraduate students to apply to be a counselor for the 2022 summer session. PROMYS is a six-week summer program for talented high school students. The 2022 program will run from Friday, July 1 to Saturday, August 13. We are currently planning for an in-person program on the campus of Boston University. All participants will be required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and comply with Boston University's testing protocols while on campus.

Counselors are expected to engage in their own mathematical pursuits at PROMYS; therefore, each counselor is assigned only three to five students. Counselor duties include providing feedback on their first-year students' daily number theory problem sets, supporting students in their mathematical explorations, and serving as a mathematical role model. In addition, counselors may supervise a research project, give lectures on a topic of interest for students or other counselors, and/or participate in advanced seminars. Counselors are selected primarily based on their mathematical experience and commitment to helping to create a strong mathematical community.

Counselors will be paid a $4,000 stipend and are provided with room and board. Counselors are expected to make a full commitment to PROMYS for the six weeks of the program.

PROMYS is particularly interested in fostering a diverse community. We strongly encourage applications from prospective counselors who identify as female, African American, Hispanic or as being from other groups underrepresented in STEM. Our community is strengthened by diversity.

For more information and to apply, please see our website. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis starting on February 1.
