The Department of Mathematics at UC Davis is starting a new NSF funded summer program (REU) for undergraduate students (DMS-1950928). The program will support 12 students for eight weeks starting (tentatively) on June 21st. Between four and six projects across pure and applied mathematics, and representative of the research areas in the department, will be offered.

Students will be directly mentored by UC Davis faculty and will have the opportunity to interact with graduate students and postdoctoral fellows in the field. Students will attend workshops on graduate school, careers in the mathematical sciences, and discuss fundamental questions of the role of mathematics in our modern society. Students will be expected to write a final report and give an oral presentation to their peers at the end of the program.

Students will receive a stipend of $600 per week with additional funds for travel to and from UC Davis, room and board, local transport, and conference presentations. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic travel to and from UC-Davis may be restricted.

Additionally, students will have the opportunity to join field trips to sites in or near the San Francisco Bay Area
