Program Description:

This is the application page for the 2021 Research Experiences for Undergraduates Program in Coding Theory, Number Theory, and Numerical Analysis. This REU will take place at Occidental College, a small liberal arts college in Northeast Los Angeles. This is an eight week program that will consist of eight undergraduates split into two groups to work with faculty members Treena Basu and Jim Brown. Our web site will provide sample problems from each area to give an idea of what you would be working on over the summer. The program will run from June 7 - July 30, 2021. If public health conditions do not allow the REU to be in person, we will hold the REU remotely.

To be considered for this program you must be a US citizen or permanent resident. (If you are not a US citizen or permanent resident and have your own funding, please indicate that when you apply.) To apply, you must:
  • Provide the names and e-mail addresses of two people willing to provide a letter of reference.
  • Upload (unofficial) college transcripts.
  • Upload a statement of interest that addresses why you think you are a good fit for this particular REU program and why it is a good fit for you.  This statement MUST provide a ranking of the research areas (coding theory, number theory, and numerical analysis).
