Program Description:

The University of Michigan-Dearborn REU Site in Mathematical Analysis and Applications is an eight-week program that will run from 05/24/2021 to 07/16/2021. The research projects will be related to complex analysis, differential geometry, spectral theory, probability, numerical analysis, algebraic coding theory, phaseless imaging, and geometric function theory. The specific project descriptions can be seen on the program website. Please indicate in your personal statement the projects you are interested in from the list below.

**Spectral Theory and CR Geometry

**Error-correcting Codes Coming from Toric Varieties

**Linear Fractional Transformations

**Value distribution of elliptic Dedekind sums

Participants will receive a $4,800 stipend, housing on campus, travel support to and from Michigan, and travel support for conferences after the program ends.

Students will have a unique interaction with experienced faculty mentors in a productive intellectual environment, where they will learn how to use mathematical ideas to solve real-life problems. The program organizers will help students to find appropriate venues to present and publish their results. Additionally, students will learn more about the graduate school application process and career opportunities in academia and industry. Students from underrepresented groups in mathematics, women, first-year college students, and students from two-year college programs are especially encouraged to apply.

Please visit the program website for outcomes from previous years.

Note the separate application form for the "Phase Retrieval with Applications to Optical Microscopy" project.
