The program runs for eight weeks starting on June 3, 2024 and offers subsidized travel to and from Towson, a stipend of $4400, free on-campus housing, and a meal allowance/plan.

During the first week of the program, faculty mentors will introduce students to the research topics. Students will be divided into three groups, and each group will work closely with two faculty mentors on an open research problem. The research topics for this summer are:

  • Number Theory, Polynomial Divisor Graphs (Required background: Either a first course in abstract algebra or number theory);
  • Group Theory, Vertex Minimal Graphs with Automorphism Group of Prescribed Order (Required background: A first course in abstract algebra); and
  • Probability, Functional Dimension of Neural Networks (Required background: A course in linear algebra and a course in probability).
More detailed descriptions of each project can be found at https://tigerweb.towson.edu/ccornwell/REU/. Students are expected to present their research findings at a regular research seminar and will write up their final results for publication. Additionally, the program offers numerous professional development opportunities and social activities.
